2025 COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS

RAYMOND HASSAN

Hello there, my name is Raymond Hassan,

I am standing to join the committee. I have been involved with the racing game since the age of 16 years from working in stables, to being a shareholder in horses. I also rode in country picnic meetings winning cup in SA & WA. The reason I am putting my name in the barrel is that I’d like to be hands-on, helping wherever I can. My previous experience in committees has been with the Festival State Rodeo Circuit in several positions also as president for four years.

Thank you for reading this. Raymond Hassan

DANIEL KIRYK

I’m Daniel Kiryk, a manager of over 20 years in the Transport industry.

I’m married with three children and have spent my entire life within the Gawler & Barossa regions.

I have been an active volunteer within the local sporting community for over 15 years, holding various committee roles during this time, including President of a local football club.

Through my professional career I have a Diploma in Business Management and have become adept in problem solving, relationship building and creating growth in all aspects of business.

I am a passionate and strong supporter of the local Thoroughbred and Racing industry and have shares in over 10 horses with multiple local trainers.

Please consider my nomination for a committee position as I believe I will be a positive contributor to our club.

PAUL BRUGGEMANN

My name is Paul Bruggemann and I ask the membership of the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club to consider supporting me in seeking a second term on our committee. I was a serving Police Officer for 43 years and now have a small farming enterprise. I have either bred or raced horses all of my adult life.

It has been a difficult 6 months for our club with one of the driest years on record contributing to significant difficulties in maintaining our track to the required standard. The committee, along with all staff, have made every attempt to mitigate these issues. The Gawler Cup was run on the 24th October and our track looked outstanding.

I am a pragmatic individual and strive ‘to get things done’. With the support of the Committee I researched and sourced a ‘Hydrosmart’ water conditioning apparatus which will shortly be installed and integrated into our irrigation system. This system will significantly improve our water quality and mitigate the watering issues we have had in the past.

I have been actively involved in the maintenance of the new stable complex which will shortly be landscaped, not only to make the complex more practical, but aesthetically more professional. I supplied and fitted the ‘safety gate’ in the lane behind the trainer’s stables. I will continue to control weeds in and around the stable complex and car parks. As a member of our Committee I am committed to ‘do’ rather than simply ‘say’.

I will always strive to be contactable and collaborative when dealing with all parties involved in our organization.  I am impartial and am prepared to listen. Differing views are healthy and it is the role of our committee to listen, absorb and if need be, table these views.

We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful facility. If re-elected I will continue to work hard for better outcomes for our club.

IAN GORE

I hereby submit my nomination for consideration as a continuing committee member of the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club. With a  passion for racing and a strong commitment to the sporting communities, I am eager to contribute my skills, experience, and enthusiasm to further the club’s traditions and future growth.

I have been involved in horse racing for over 30 years. During this period, I have actively participated in race meetings as an owner and have come to value both the sport and its sense of camaraderie.  My professional background in business management and community engagement has equipped me with the organisational and leadership skills needed to support the club’s operations and events.

As a committee member, I have been involved with discussion with government both state and local regarding issues facing the club, along with a general contribution to the promotion of responsible racing practices. With my experience and expertise in finance and governance, I have provided advice in budgeting, planning and strategic decision making.

If selected for the committee, I would advocate for initiatives that enhance member engagement, support local trainers and jockeys, and maintain our facilities to the highest standard. I am committed to a position where our club remains at the forefront of the racing community.

Thank you for considering my nomination. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and contribute to the continued success of the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club

PETER THOMPSON

I am a father of four and grandfather of seven.  A retired public servant.  I have lived in the north of Adelaide all my life (except for a 10 year working holiday on the Gold Coast). My wife and I now live only a furlong or two from the Gawler racetrack. I enjoy punting, and remember attending Gawler racecourse from a young age. Over the years I have been involved in ownership racing thoroughbreds, greyhounds and even pigeons !!

I believe I have skills that can assist the committee continue their good management of our great club. Skills developed from my employment, experience as president of an amateur football club, chairman of a cricket club and tertiary qualifications in Rehabilitation Counselling and Recreation Management (which included marketing, program planning and tourism).

I can commit, if given the honour of being elected to committee, to assisting the committee and our chief executive officer in any way I can. I would like to help develop opportunities to value-add to our club membership benefits, highlight our club even further as a valuable community asset and focus attention on the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club as a go to destination for family friendly fun.
